Sometimes it’s the little things in life that make big differences. As I got up today (February 14th) and began settling in my work room Karen came in with tea as is useful. However today the tea was accompanied by a little £1 box of chocolates to mark Valentines day.
The fact that she wanted half of the chocolates for herself is beside the point.
The photo put me in mind of Barthes’ Rhetoric of The Image. Looking at the photo with his points in mind we see: 1) the written language/linguistic message; 2) the colours offering a coded iconic message of love; the packaging and the product’s iconic messages in the shape of a heart (although I am not sure if the heart shape is a symbol – standing in for the heart or an icon – ie shaped like a heart).
Such an image would make little sense of some people unaware of our culture.
