A photo a day – film noir

There are lots of great film noir movies. The atmosphere created by the approach is wonderful and I never tire of watching many of them. I thought about their style when shooting this image – it’s funny how the photographic styles change over time just like most things. This photo is of Alex just after he came in from work.

George Hurrell’s photography (link) is labelled as glamour but I would categorise lots of it as noir. The heavy Chiaroscuro gives much of it a sinister rather than glamorous evocation.  Of course I’ve used a much more dynamic point of view than any of his images.

Definitely noir. We seem to be on similar paths Pete. In fact I forgot to mention that one of your earlier posts (the double exposure) added to my urge towards my own project.
