A photo a day – summer

Yesterday was the longest day of the year, so it’s downhill in terms of light from now until mid winter. We had a Sky TV engineer in and so I was going to show this image as today’s photo of the day and talk about redundancy.

The photo shows the old sky dish, a broken dining room chair and the boys bikes. None of these are likely to be used by us again and so they sit in the garage waiting for us to do something. But the fact is that today my experience is dominated by heat and colour and the garden took my interest.

I thought about shooting something showing the light and shade with a strong contrast – but then this little fella took my eye.

I know the photo is simple and obvious, but the flower and light is arresting if you give yourself time to really look at it. So this has to be my image of the day and its represents my experience of colour and light. (Indeed, I like the way the light adds a little dynamism to the image).
