I picked up my late mum’s remains today. The activity generated lots of questions. Do I label the photo “mum”? Is this a photo of mum?
Of course it isn’t. The person that was Muriel Jean Mansell doesn’t exist physically anymore, just in memories and records and in the results of her influence over the people whose lives she touched. This photo is of residue: mum’s physical presence transformed into something else.
