A photo a day – spectacle or symbolism?

I went to see the poppies at the Tower of London today. The place was rammed full of people but I managed to get a good view of the ceramic poppy display. I wondered how I should show them to you. The above shot is my choice for today as it shows the spectacle of the poppies in situ but another image caught my eye. I like this photo below because it removed the context and so all the viewer sees are the poppies and grass but the focal length means that the viewer can see they are not real and so opens the image’s narrative up. I think image emphasises symbolism over spectacle.

Which do you prefer and why?

Like you, I’m with the first one—it’s the vastness that appeals.
