A photo a day – Golden oldies

We drove to Rochester is Kent today and wandered down the high street. It’s a nice place because it is unique and challenges the usual high streets where all the shops are part of the same chains wherever you are. At this time of year the sun is always low in the sky makes for pleasing tones.

The high street is pretty flat and quite easy to roll on, and with the cathedral, river, castle and proximity to London you would think it would be a fashionable place to live but it isn’t. In fact it’s been in the news these past few weeks because UKIP took the Parliamentary seat from the Tories.

These images got me thinking because I have presented them as representations of place and not artistic objects (even though they have particular forms and aesthetics). I don’t see this is a weakness with the medium though, just the opposite. The mutability of photos is one of its most powerful features.
