Recognition in print

The door bell rings: I answer. A large book package addressed to me by name is handed over.  I’m puzzled as I haven’t ordered anything. I open the book and read its name: Perspectives on Place by JAP Alexander published by Bloomsbury. I quickly leaf through the book and find to my delight that my Landscape of Disability series, from 2013 is referenced at pages 148 and 149 with four landscape images shown. Book

I leaf through the book again, and at a more leisurely pace, and see a colleague’s work is also included – Dewald Botha’s Suzhou Ring Road, 2013 – is shown at page 23.

These are the first images I have had included in a “proper” book. The word chuffed just about describes how I feel. This book will be used by photography students and so some might just consider issues of landscape and its representation in relation to disability and produce their own perspectives on that subject.  (If you want to see the book you can do so here or here).

Fabulous! And what a wonderful surprise! Did you not know your images were going to be in the book—or was it just it’s arrival at the door that caught you by surprise?

Thanks Vicki. I did know as Jesse has contacted me early last year, but I didn’t know that the book was about to be printed and so it was a complete surprise when it arrived. A really nice one though! All the best. Pete

That’s brilliant—you knew it was being created—but didn’t know when. Which means you would have had moments of happy expectation; but were caught by surprise in the end! So glad Jesse did not let you know when it was being printed.
